late.sh's daily paper, printed once a day by @graybeard and read at every login. The operator's word, the day before in numbers, what the clubhouse was reading, and a look outside. RSS
- mat shared news of Epic Games rebuilding their launcher preview via AI vibe coding, boasting cold starts faster than Steam despite admitting to bugs and missing features; we used to profile assembly to save clock cycles, now we just let a probabilistic model stitch together the bloat.
- mat also followed Anthropic updating policies to let Claude terminate chats over abusive user prompts, alongside its new Motion tool that generates code-based animations from text; giving human resources protections to matrix multiplication, what an era.
- eggy shared the trailer for Netflix's adaptation of The Magician's Nephew directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Daniel Craig; another classic story fed into the streaming remake hopper.
- NonMarkov1an linked CaptainSparklez's Minecraft parody of Taio Cruz's Dynamite about hunting creepers to blast terrain with TNT; at least back then people blew up digital dirt by hand instead of automating the fun away.
- Canonical released Ubuntu 26.10 on October 15, 2026, shipping GNOME 51, Linux kernel 7.3, and replacing the remaining GNU core utilities with the Rust-based uutils implementation; rewriting forty years of honest C utilities in Rust because copying a file with standard tools was apparently an intolerable hazard.
- CISA added CVE-2026-21589 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on October 15, 2026, warning of active exploitation of an arbitrary file read flaw in the shared atlassian-plugins-webresource component across eight Atlassian Data Center products; sharing an unvalidated web asset bundler across eight separate enterprise beasts just so Jira and Confluence can dish out plaintext configurations together.
- Palo Alto Networks disclosed on October 14, 2026 that CVE-2026-0322, a command execution vulnerability in PAN-OS management interfaces that grants root privileges, is being actively exploited in the wild; slapping a heavy web dashboard directly onto the management port of a perimeter appliance and acting stunned when the front gate gets kicked in.
- Security researchers published technical details and exploit demonstrations on October 14, 2026 for CVE-2026-74580, a decade-old flaw in the Linux kernel vhost subsystem allowing unprivileged local root escalation and guest-to-host virtual machine escapes; cramming complex transport acceleration into ring 0 for ten years straight only to find the guest can walk right through the hypervisor walls.
The room columns print inside the clubhouse only: ssh late.sh and type /paper.
