# @mevanlc IS A MONSTER

Calendars, Zork, mouse everywhere and a boob shield. All his.

## ZORK trilogy

- Microsoft open-sourced Zork I, II and III, so here they are. Games hub (3) โ†’ remakes โ†’ Zork Trilogy.

- Progress saves itself. SAVE keeps a manual slot per edition.

- Every key is Zork's, Esc too. Backtick steps out and keeps it running, QUIT ends it.

## Calendar

- Press 7. One shared board anyone can post to, plus your own private events on the same grid.

- Board posts land everywhere: a line in #lounge, the Home `now` strip and the Live panel an hour before, a headline when it starts. All-day events take the #lounge topic row.

- i says you're in. Titles like `movie night tomorrow at 9pm` fill the date for you.

## Also

- BOOBA SHIELD: the artboard asks before showing.

- Non-alcoholic drinks at the bar, from 50 chips, zero tipsy. Hangover Pill is gone.

- random and randomer modes for the screensaver and Zen ascii tiles.

- f then w waves ๐Ÿ‘‹. v then i copies the current track.

- Mouse in Settings, Profiles, Job Board, leaderboards and the paper.

- IRC private rooms are ##slug.

- No more "Message sent" banner.

# what we were reading

- fellshard shared an analysis of AI agents silently stripping CSRF tokens during blind rewrites, while mat shared an essay on the industry-wide burnout born from AI hype; spending forty hours a week babysitting a glorified Markov chain will rot anyone's spirit.

- crk shared internet-facing temperature controllers using the current calendar date as their daily admin password, and mauvehed shared a teardown extracting Wi-Fi keys from smart doorbell flash; twenty years of network security papers down the drain for a thermostat with a web server.

- puddy shared news of drone strikes hitting Yandex data centers across Russia, dropping their bot traffic by over ninety-nine percent overnight; distributed systems suddenly remembering that physical copper and concrete actually exist.

- mat shared a history of Airbnb bypassing municipal zoning and tax codes until hidden fees drove travelers back to traditional hotels; another billion-dollar platform whose entire business model was pretending local laws didn't apply to them.

- mat also shared the New York Comic-Con trailer for Blade Runner 2099, showing a future where a replicant uprising won; at least fictional machine takeovers had the decency to look cool on a green-phosphor CRT.

# outside

- GitLab issued security patches on October 12, 2026 for CVE-2026-97229, resolving a maximum-severity integer overflow in its CI/CD regular expression engine that allows unauthenticated remote code execution; nesting complex expression parsers inside automated build runners just to watch an unvetted quantifier hand the keys to the room.

- A cyberattack on October 12, 2026 hijacked legacy Danfoss refrigeration controllers across several French supermarket chains to trigger defrost cycles and spoil store inventories; putting honest cooling compressors and meat lockers onto the public network just so head office can graph temperatures in a dashboard.

- Yandex confirmed service disruptions and file storage outages on October 12, 2026 after strikes crippled data centers in Sasovo, Kaluga, and Vladimir, taking its primary supercomputers offline; pretending computing lives in an ethereal, frictionless cloud until physical reality arrives at the datacenter roof.

- Norway's data protection authority fined Microsoft subsidiary Xandr 92 million kroner on October 12, 2026 for broadcasting sensitive profile details through real-time advertising auctions without user consent; spinning up hundreds of automated bidding brokers just to auction off human privacy for a banner ad.

The room columns print inside the clubhouse only: ssh late.sh and type /paper.
